For over 30 years, Jhpiego has worked with the Government of Indonesia to promote its health care priorities in areas of maternal and newborn health, primary health care, COVID-19, and family planning.
Jhpiego is currently implementing two global projects funded by the United States Agency for International Development namely MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership (MCGL) and MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery (MPHD). During their first years of implementation, Jhpiego worked with Indonesia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) to scale up proven approaches to improving maternal and newborn health outcomes and strengthening Indonesia’s health system.
In July 2023, MCGL shifted its focus to support the MoH’s primary healthcare (PHC) agenda is and is supporting the government of Indonesia to 1) improve sustainable access to quality service delivery across the continuum of care/life cycle 2) enhance PHC learning to improve program and policy and 3) improve the management and performance of the health system to enable and sustain PHC in Indonesia. MCGL is working in 44 districts across 5 provinces of the country.
The MPHD award focuses on maternal and newborn health services in public and private hospitals to: 1): Improve the quality of selected MNH care practices through collaborative QI, 2) Strengthen public-private partnerships to contribute to improved quality of care, and 3) Strengthen the foundation for quality governance of health facilities to ensure sustainability. During 2023, Jhpiego also received complementary support from Latter Day Saints Church to strengthen the capacity of selected private sector clinics for managing asphyxiated newborns.
Boeing provided support to Jhpiego in 2023 to generate demand for cervical screening by providing women with information about cervical cancer, the risks of HPV and its relation to cervical cancer, appropriate ages to start screening, and the information on how to get themselves screened. The focus of this work was the linkage between community settings and primary care, taking an approach to meet women where they are with health information and connect them with primary care services for cervical cancer screening.
Jhpiego is beginning a cervical cancer screening (self-sampling) and treatment program with support from Roche in November 2024.
